Rather than working in sketchbooks, I often prefer to create my own handmade notebooks, sometimes using a Japanese bookbinding method, but most frequently using kettle-stitch. This process gives me a more personal connection to the vessels within which my artworks reside. I sometimes turn my miniature handmade notebooks into themed artist books, such as the “Enchanted Mushroom” artist book, which I filled with collaged dried herbs.
